Its Member Monday!

Meet Rotarian Karen Howe - current President of the Rotary Club of Miramichi. Karen joined Rotary as a means of helping out the community, to meet other civic minded people and to have a sense of fulfillment from participating in many events and raising funds for a wide variety of projects. As a Rotarian, shes had a hand in many fundraisers such as pond hockey, Ribfests, purse auctions, poker tournaments among many others. Karen gets as much enjoyment from participating as she does from seeing the funds raised help so many in our community. The events are often a lot of work, but there are a lot good times and a lot of laughs. Shes happy to have been a part of raising funds for the Hospital Foundation, Hospice Miramichi, the Womens Shelter & the Food Bank and so many others.

Once one of the most feared diseases in the country, polio caused thousands of cases of paralysis annually and primarily affected children. It was removed in Canada by about 1980 through vaccination, but still lurks in a couple developing countries. For more information, see www.EndPolio.org. Since FB does not allow links to news stories, we will refer you to this CBC story of Paul Alexander who spent most of his live in an iron lung, while always remaining positive.
