For many years,
the Rotary Club of Newcastle offered the G. Roy MacWilliam Scholarship annually to a graduating student of Miramichi Valley
High School. The new scholarship program has been developed as a “memorial” scholarship that
will honour a different worthy person each year. For the 2010 graduating class, the Memorial Scholarship
will honour the late Ian Byers. Mr. Byers was a long-serving Rotarian, a community-minded volunteer and
strong supporter of youth in Miramichi and elsewhere.
