The Rotary Club of Newcastle is pleased to announce that the annual scholarship it offers has been increased to the amount of $3500.  The scholarship will be awarded annually and  graduating students from Miramichi Valley High School, North and South Esk Regional High School  and Carrefour Beausoleil are eligible to apply.  The Scholarship award criteria are modeled on the mission and values of Rotary.

Applicants who demonstrate service and commitment to school and to community, solid academic achievement in high school, participation and achievement in athletic, arts and/or cultural activities and leadership skills will be considered favorably.  Applicants must be applying to enroll in a post-secondary institution to start Fall term 2010 to study fulltime in any field.  Applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, March 31, 2010
and the recipient will be announced by June 1st.  Application forms will be available from the Principal and Guidance Offices at the 3 schools or it can be downloaded below.

For many years, the Rotary Club of Newcastle offered the G. Roy MacWilliam Scholarship annually to a graduating student of Miramichi Valley High School.  The new scholarship program has been developed as a “memorial” scholarship that will honour a different worthy person each year.  For the 2010 graduating class, the Memorial Scholarship will honour the late Ian Byers.  Mr. Byers was a long-serving Rotarian, a community-minded volunteer and strong supporter of youth in Miramichi and elsewhere.
