The Rotary Club
of Newcastle Memorial Scholarship is in the amount of $3500. The scholarship will be awarded
annually and graduating students from Miramichi Valley High
School, North and South Esk Regional High School and Carrefour Beausoleil are eligible to apply.
The Scholarship award
criteria are modeled on the mission and values of Rotary.
Applicants who demonstrate service and commitment to school and to community, solid academic achievement in high school, participation
and achievement in athletic, arts and/or cultural activities and leadership skills will be considered favorably.
Applicants must be applying to enroll in a post-secondary institution to start Fall term 2011 to study fulltime in
any field. Applications must be postmarked by Friday,
April 15, 2011 and the recipient will be announced by June 1st. Application forms will be available
from the Principal and Guidance Offices at the 3 schools or it can be downloaded below.
For many years, the Rotary Club of Newcastle offered the G.
Roy MacWilliam Scholarship annually to a graduating student of Miramichi Valley High School. The new scholarship
program has been developed as a “memorial” scholarship that will honour a different worthy person each year.
For the 2011 graduating class, the Memorial Scholarship will honour the late Bob Wallace.
Bob Wallace was the longest
serving Rotarian in the history of the Rotary Club of Newcastle, having been a member for over 40 years. Bob was a Second
World War veteran having served in the radio service in Gaspé. He Moved to Miramichi where he was a Radio pioneer being
the General Manager for CKMR, Miramichi's first radio station.
